Google Home: The Ups and Downs of a Google Assisted App
Each passing day, people look for ways to simplify and make tasks more enjoyable. As a search tool, Google has excelled in making everything more manageable. Google Home is one of the leading apps in enhancing the smart home experience for iOS and Android mobile. Google Home apk download is available online, namely on Google Play for app users on Android, and iTunes for those on iOS.
Once I configured my Wi-Fi, I was able to download the Android app for free. The user interface of the latest version of the Google Android app (apk 220.127.116.11) is appealing and easy to navigate. Google Home’s homepage consists of the Browse and Discover commands which replaced the Watch, Discover and Listen categories from the previous version. The Discover cards can show you how to increase or reduce the volume of your device or to activate Google Assistant. As a result of the update, the Watch and Listen sections are now under Browse. The search button is at the bottom left next to the Music, TV Shows, and Movies. Also, it is now possible to expand the lists of commands for the Google Assistant app.
Here are some of the top features of Google Home app for all Android devices:
1. Assist Cards
It is possible to optimize devices using the Google Home assist cards found in the Discover section. Some of my personal favorites are
- Shelves and Services
- Now Playing
2. Night Mode
The app allows me to configure it on particular days or times to dim lights or reduce volumes. As I do not prefer the lights of the smart speaker at night, I opt to dim them at night. With the Do Not Disturb mode, I can silence all notifications, reminders or messages in Night Mode.
3. Menu Drawer
It’s an organizer that helps in monitoring and controlling settings of the devices.
4. Multiple Content Providers
Some of the casting options include B&O Play, the CW, iHeart Radio, Spotify, Chromecast, Pandora, Vizio, Google Play Music, Polk Audio and CBS among others.
Setting up Google Home is easy and takes up only a few minutes. The only catch is that you need to have a Google Account to configure the app. Google Home is straightforward and quite practical. The Google Assistant stands out from similar products such as Siri on iPhone & iPad or Alexa because it can process and understand more than one command at a time. Even when music is playing at a high volume, Google Assistant can still pick up commands. Google Home seamlessly synchronizes other Google services such as YouTube, Google Play Music, and Chromecast.
Currently, the Google Home App is available for free. However, the Google Home Speakers retail at $129.99 which is relatively expensive. The primary advantage of owning the Google Home Speakers is that you get to use Google Assistant.
Smart Homes have become the in thing. Well, the Google Home app makes the Smart Home experience better. With the app, it is possible to plan for the day as the Google Assistant provides updates (traffic and weather) as well as notifications and reminders. Also, the Google Home app can automate your devices. Plus, you get an array of services and products to cast and enjoy. If the thought of having a voice assistant excites you as much as it does me, then the Google Home is a must-have.
